Monroe unveils three new city buses

The city of Monroe on Tuesday held a ribbon cutting to unveil three new buses.

The redesigned low-floor buses feature frameless windows for a sleeker look, a new front end cap and easier access inside.

The ULM-themed paint job also included the words, "Powered by Bio-Fuel," because the city is the first in the state to use the environmentally friendly bio-diesel fuel.

The buses were funded with a 100 percent grant from the Federal Transit Administration, at a cost of $325,293 each.

The Monroe Transit System was among 10 transit systems nationwide to be honored at the Federal Transit Administration's 2008 Success in Enhancing Ridership Annual Awards Banquet. Monroe received this award because of outstanding growth in ridership.
