Lady Rebels suffer first district loss

Five errors that led to six unearned runs proved to be too much to overcome on Tuesday as Ruston defeated West Monroe, 8-2.

The loss was the first in District 2-5A for the Lady Rebels (13-6-3, 2-1).

"I really think that we showed our youth a little bit in this game," West Monroe head coach Amy Daigle said. "We start a pair of freshmen in the infield and I felt that our lack of experience in a big game probably came back and bit us a little bit in this one."

Holding a brief 1-0 lead after the first inning on Tiffani Robinson's RBI groundout, West Monroe fell behind in the second inning after Kadie Williams' two-run double to give Ruston a 2-1 lead.

The younger sister of former LSU standout Kyle Williams, Kadie Williams had a big day at the plate, going 2-for--5 with a pair of doubles and a run batted in.

The floodgates opened up in the third as Ruston sent 11 batters to plate en route to scoring six runs on five hits but more importantly four errors which made all the runs unearned.

Whitney Moore (8-3-3) was the losing pitcher in the circle for West Monroe.
