James Elvin Broom
Mr. James Elvin Broom, 87, of West Monroe, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at his residence.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Rev. Dennis Anger officiating. Interment was in Hasley Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday evening at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ida P. Broom; his parents, J.C. and Margaret Carter Broom and by his brothers, Norman and Eual Broom.
Survivors include daughters, Lorita Gilmore of Fort Necessity, and Vera McCarty of West Monroe;
sister, Margaret Gebhardt of Calhoun; grandchildren, Jennifer McCarty, Marissa McCarty, Missy Beavers and Randy Gilmore; great-grandchildren, MaKayla Beavers, Kody Beavers, Jacob Weaver and Jackson Weaver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Randy Gilmore, Gerald Gilmore, Charlie Keene, Ryan Norris, Greg Windsor and Gerald Byrd.

Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Gilbert
Mrs. Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Gilbert, 87, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was Monday evening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gilbert; and son, Edward Jake Short.
Survivors include her daughters, Diane Walters of Monroe, and Elizabeth Ann Gilbert O'hara of Williamsport, Tenn.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Louisiana.

Riley E. Hopkins
Mr. Riley E. Hopkins, 80, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in Monroe.
His funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Harry Lilly officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Monday evening at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Hopkins Sr. and Ada Hopkins Turnage; and stepfather, J.P. Turnage.
Survivors include wife of 60 years, Gloria J. Hopkins; one daughter, Sheryl Bell and husband, Steven; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hill and husband, Greg, and Todd Bell and wife, Katrina; five great-grandchildren, Bailey and Abbigail Hill, Taylor, Brooke and Shyan Bell; one sister, Louise Carr of Pensacola, Fla.; three nephews, John S. Carr and wife, Robin, Donald C. Carr and wife, Barbara, and Richard T. Carr; one niece, Ruth Wessel and husband, Jack, of Pensacola, Fla.; and his faithful retriever, "Sonny."
Pallbearers were Guy D. Bell, Floyd Peters, Floyd Lightsey, Benny Rollins, Chris Smith and Jimmy Hickey.

Charlotte Regina Denton Lenard
Mrs. Charlotte Regina Denton Lenard, 62, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a very lengthy illness.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m Saturday, March 1, at Cypress Baptist Church with Revs. Larry Eubanks and George Bonner officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was immediately before the service.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Lenard; sister, Diane Heffner; brothers, Jimmy Murphy and Joey Murphy; stepchildren, Dennis Lenard and wife, Lynette, John Lenard, Paula Lenard Childers and husband, Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Doug Wheelington, Dan Street, Lonnie Antley, Eugene Ouchley, Tommy Ford and Jarvis Renfrow. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Wilbanks, Dennis Herd, Daniel Leroy Childers and Ray Floyd

Ricky Wayne Lowery Sr.
Ricky Wayne Lowery Sr., 42, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, following an automobile accident.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today, March 6, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe with Bro. Pete Gilbert officiating. Interment was in Twin Cities Memorial Gardens in West Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Evelyn Lowery; grandfather, George W. Warner; and cousin, Timothy "Tinker" Warner.
Survivors include his parents, Gerald and Renee Lowery and Jim and Irene Cowger; two sons, Hunter Lowery and Ricky Wayne Lowery Jr.; one daughter, Angel Logan Lowery; brothers, LaMar Lowery and Heath Lowery; stepbrother, Chuck Sturdivant; and stepsister, Misty Sturdivant; grandmother, Omah Wheeler, all of West Monroe.
Pallbearers were Douglas Valentine, Keith Lenard, Jeff Hicks, Hunter Lowery, Jeff Spillers, James Warner, Bubba Lawson, Frankie Hillhouse and Jerry Walker.

Philip "Snake" Ragland
Philip "Snake" Ragland passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Revs. Weldon Bares and Warren Eckhardt officiating. A night of dinner and remembrance was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, in the Cork Room at The Chateau. Visitation was held Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Interment was at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
"Snake" left behind his family that he loved so much including his sister, Linda Mae Melton of Cave Creek, Ariz.; niece, Dee Dee Biggs and husband, Larry, their daughter and his great niece, Isabella of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; niece, Julie Rose McDonald and husband, Frank, their sons and his great nephews, Evan and Conner of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; sister, Barbara Sue Bayles of West Monroe; brother, Donnie Gayle Zeigler of New Orleans; and best friend, Larry Lee Cobb of Monroe.
Pallbearers were Earl Moon, Ken Cook, Chris Turner, Don Wills, Joey "PH" Johnston and Art Thigpen.

Barbara Jean Wallace Regan
Mrs. Barbara Jean Wallace Regan, 81, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at home and surrounded by family and friends.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Dr. Allison Moody officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Regan; mother and father, Percy Lyle and Bertha Moore Wallace; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Willie Edwin and Kate Byrnes Regan.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Boutwell and husband, Kenneth, of West Monroe, Ed Regan and wife, Joy, of West Monroe, and Charles Regan Jr. and wife, Gayle, of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Jonathan Regan, Kerry Regan, Jeffrey Regan, Sara Regan McKinney and husband, Charles, Darryl Boutwell and wife, Tammy, Dana Burch, Jordan and Brenna Boutwell, and Sydney and Sophie Leslie; beloved canine companions, Buddy and Baby Izzie; special cousin, Johnny Lou Daniel; friend like a sister, LaRue Howard; special caregivers, Angela Brown, Gloria Brown, and their families; as well as many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Olin Baker Saulsbury, 73, of Monroe, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sammie Fowler Saulsbury; brother, Tony Saulsbury and wife, Pat, of Wichita Falls, Texas; in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Garry Nall of Amarillo, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bettinger of Lakewood, Col., and Dr. and Mrs. John Fowler of Aiken, S.C.; and nieces and nephews, Stuart Saulsbury, Scott Saulsbury, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. John Barnhart, Scott Saulsbury, Drs. He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Walding.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Walding; four daughters, Kathy Elledge and husband, Bob, Sherry Smith and husband, Roger, Susan Walding, and Benji Lynn Hendrix and husband, David; grandchildren, Daniel Coates, Casey Russell, Ryan Smith and Katelynn Malone-Walding; stepchildren, Jack Conley, Jesse Conley and Rita Saxon; stepgrandchildren, Rachel Elledge, Brittany Elledge, Jack Conley Jr., Josh Jackson, Ronni Sims, Chad Smith and Jessica Smith; aunt, Lorene Holland; special uncle, Carl Brister and his family; special cousin, Keith Brister and wife, Cheryl; and other family in Alexandria.

Mr. Robert Bernard Watson, 65, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008.
His funeral was Saturday, March 1, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Rev. Sebastian Kallarackal officiating. Interment was in St. Paschal Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation and a wake were held Friday evening.

Mrs. Marvel Marie Winn, 83, of West Monroe, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Prudhomme and Julia Trichel; stepmother, Laura Trichel; and daughter-in-law, Sue Winn.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie Joe Winn of Mer Rouge, Larry Don Winn and wife, Cathy, of West Monroe, and Ernest Dwayne Winn and wife, Beatrice, of Lonoke, Ark.; sisters, Lucille Hopkins North and husband, Ray, of Oak Grove and Betty Carter of West Monroe; brothers, Mack Trichel and wife, Jo, of Hot Springs, Ark., Woody Trichel and wife, Cloteal, of Mer Rouge, and Joseph Prudhomme Trichel Jr. and wife, Lori, of West Monroe; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; very special niece, Marlyn Black; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
