ORAG features Carolyn Fox paintings The featured artist for March at the Ouachita River Art Gallery is Carolyn Fox of Monroe.
Fox has always loved nature and this show celebrates her love of trees with paintings in several different media.
Inspired by Joyce Kilmer's poem, "Trees," and memories of playing as a child in a big sycamore tree in her grandmother's yard were further inspiration for the paintings in this show.
Fox, even as a child, loved to draw. After raising her family she began to take painting lessons funded by a birthday present from her mother one year. Now one of her greatest joys comes from being an art instructor at the West Monroe Senior Center.
The artist said, "The God-given beauty in nature and my love of life are ever present in my work. I strive to create paintings that summon emotions of peace, serenity or nostalgia."
Fox's show, "A Tribute to Trees," will hang for the entire month of March.
The Ouachita River Art Gallery, located at 308 Trenton Street in West Monroe, is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission is free.
