Antonio Landers had a double/double to help lead the Ouachita Parish Lions to a 71-65 victory over Westgate Tuesday night in the 5A regional round to advance to the quarterfinal round against H. L. Bourgeois Friday night.

Landers pumped in 17 points and pulled down 12 boards to gain his double/double.

"We played extremely well last night," said Ouachita coach Casey Jones. "We're really going to have to play well Friday night. They're real talented and a very athletic team. We've got our work cut out for us. We'll have to try to take care of the basketball and rebound."

Ouachita, the No. 12 seed, faces Bourgeois, the No. 13 seed.

Bourgeois defeated St. Thomas More 57-56 to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Lions 49, Bonnabel 37

The Lions advanced to the second round of the 5A state tournament with a 49-37 victory over visiting Bonnabel on Friday night in Monroe.

After an 11-7 start at the end of the first quarter, the Lions saw the lead slip away as Bonnabel clawed its way back to take a 23-17 advantage at the half.

"I felt in the first half we had a case of playoff jitters," Jones said. "Several boys hadn't ever played in a playoff game before. We played much better in the second half."

Ouachita kept the game close in the third quarter, finally tying the game at 27-27 on Nick Haymond's field goal.

Alonzo Martin then hit a jumper at the buzzer to end the quarter and give Ouachita a 29-27 advantage.

Bonnabel tied the score at 29-29 at the start of the final quarter of regulation, but

Ouachita went on an 8-2 run afterwards which gave them the advantage they never relinquished.

Both Haywood and Antonio Landers contributed 19 points each to the total for the Lions.
Ouachita had good free throw shooting down the stretch as Mike Shaw and Landers drained free throws.
