OCS advances to Final Four for first time Julienne Joyner scored a whopping 34 points as the Ouachita Christian School Lady Eagles advanced to the state 1A Top 28 for the first time ever with a 70-59 victory over Arcadia Thursday night at the OCS gym.
OCS will play Acadiana Prep in the semifinal round at Hammond in the University of Southeastern Louisiana gym at 5 p.m. Monday.
"They were ready to play tonight," said OCS coach Jeremy Shackelford. "I'm very proud of them and what they accomplished."
The game was played with an intensity seldom seen at the high school level.
The difference in the game proved to be an 8-0 run the Lady Eagles opened the third quarter with.
The score was tied 17-17 at the end of the first quarter and 31-30 at the half.
It was in the third quarter when the Lady Eagles came out on an impressive run.
Both teams used a tremendous full court press in the first half.
In the third quarter, Joyner drained a 3-pointer to put the Lady Eagles up 36-30 then
Tiesha Jackson hit a field goal to improve the lead to 38-30.
OCS pulled out to a 10-point advantage at 48-38 on another Joyner field goal.
OCS led 53-44 at the end of the quarter.
In the final quarter of regulation, the closest Arcadia could come was within three points at 56-53, but the Lady Eagles regained control the rest of the way.
Nicole Weaver of Arcadia led the team with five 3-pointers.
Mallory Fields helped OCS out with 10 additional points. |
