Tax Commission awaits Hargrove
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Gov. Bobby Jindal will appoint former Ouachita Parish police juror Paul Hargrove to the state Tax Commission.

An indvidiual close to the Jindal administration confirmed the appointment, which is expected to be made at anytime.

The state Tax Commission serves in an oversight role regarding tax laws in Louisiana, including disputes concerning asessments of property values. The Tax Commission also instructs parish tax assessors on which taxes it should collect or not collect in the event of a dispute between the state and individuals, the state and businesses and between the state and entities such as municipalities and parish governing bodies.

Hargrove, a Republican from West Monroe, was a candidate in the District 15 House of Representatives race in the fall of 2007. He finished second in the race to Frank Hoffmann, who was declared the winner once Hargrove dropped out of the run-off election.

The Ouachita Citizen will update this report as it develops.
