River Oaks captures fourth straight boys soccer title The dynasty continues for one of the best prep soccer teams in the area.
The River Oaks Mustangs added to their winning streak another Mississippi Private School Association State title last Saturday; their fourth in a row. The current crown was captured Saturday when the Mustangs defeated Copiah Academy 1-0.
Defense was the key in this contest as River Oaks goalkeeper Taylor Hubenthal stopped everything in his path to earn the shutout victory.
"It was a sloppy, sloppy mess," River Oaks coach Mark Alexander said. "It didn't quit raining until after we had gotten started playing. Overall we played well together."
The offensive was provided by Johnny Saye, who got the only score by either team late in the first half.
In the second half, the defense took over and continued to keep Copiah from getting another goal.
"Our senior defensive players really shut them down in the second half," Alexander said. "This is a good group. Next year this group has the chance to be even better."
Seniors Zach Scogin, Brady McMillin, Thomas Henry and William Morris join Saye and Paul McCarter on the All-MPSA squad. |
