Anthony Victor "Butch" Ditta
Mr. Anthony Victor "Butch" Ditta, 59, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at his residence.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Visitation was immediately before the service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor John Ditta; and son, Joseph David Ditta.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie B. Ditta; two sons, Anthony Victor "Tony" Ditta Jr. and John Damian Ditta; daughter, Danielle Ditta; mother, Nettie Viola Ditta; brothers, C. John Ditta, Joey Van Ditta and wife Sally, and Vincent David Ditta and wife, Trish; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Florence Thomas Evans
Mrs. Florence Evans, 84, of West Monroe, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, in West Monroe.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Luna Assembly of God Church with Revs. Joel Brackett and Eddie Hilburn officiating. Interment was at Luna Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was Thursday evening at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Iley Evans Sr.; son, Eddie Hilburn; grandson, Will May; granddaughter, Tammy Manning; stepson, Sonny Evans; stepdaughters, Maureene Manning, Barbara Morgan and Linda Moore; and brother, Elbert Thomas.
Survivors include her sons, Robert L. Hilburn and wife, Martha, Larry R. Hilburn and wife, Ginger, Billy Evans and wife, Brenda, Randy Evans and wife, Karen, Mickey Evans and wife, Sue; daughters, Ginger May and husband, Charles, and Cherry Evans; step-daughter, Janice Walker and husband, Sam; stepsons, Iley Evans and wife, Sherry, and Johnny Evans and wife, Brenda; sisters, Ellene Burk and Ila Burnett; brothers, Kary Thomas, Doyle Wheat and John Wheat; special son-in-law, Charles May; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Janet Emily Bank Fishman
Jan Fishman of Monroe died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008.
A memorial service and celebration of her life was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. The family received visitors prior to the service.
Survivors include her four children and their families: Pam and Mike Lary, Ivan and Melissa Bank, Cindy and Bruce Bernbaum, and Susie and Mike Husted; grandchildren, James and Sarah Lary, Jason and Helen Lary, Amanda and Hunter Ramsey, Taylor, Lindsey, Griffin and Riley Bank, Abby and Zoe Bernbaum, Emily, Mickel and Molly Husted. She had two great-grandchildren, Luke Lary and Hudson Ramsey, two nieces, Amy Hansen of California and Vickie Riley of Washington; and one surviving sister, Nathalie Zuck of Maryland.

Carl Lyles Ford
Mr. Carl Lyles Ford, 66, of West Monroe, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Riverside Nursing Home in Monroe.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe, with Rev. Steve Dans officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday evening.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Angella Ford; two children, Kathy Ford and Byron Ford; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother, John Ford.
Pallbearers were Jake Clark, Curtis Ramsey, Bryan Stewart, Tracy Watson, Ronnie Causey and Laron Causey.

Marie Hooter
Mrs. Marie Hooter, 82 of Monroe, began her heavenly journey on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008.
Her funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Bosco Baptist Church in Bosco
with Revs. Bruce Underwood and Jonathan Brooks officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was Friday evening at the church.
Her earthly journey included being a wife; a mother to six sons and five daughters; a grandmother to 33 grandchildren; a great-grandmother to 43 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandmother to three great-great-grandchildren; a sister to three brothers; a cousin; an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews; and a friend to all she met.

Elaine Johnson
Mrs. Elaine Johnson, 58, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Oakwood Nursing Home.
Her funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. B.F. Sellers officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was Thursday evening.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Ray Johnson; sons, Randall Lee Wood and wife, Lisa, of Austin, Texas, and Timothy Earl Wood and wife, Deno, of West Monroe; stepchildren, Clint Johnson and wife, Barbara, and Angela Daniel and husband, Jeffrey, all of Monroe; sister, Debra Meredith and husband, Ronnie, of Monroe; brother, Ronnie Mitchell and wife, Lori, of Monroe; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steven Meredith, Kevin Meredith, Steven Meredith Jr., Clint Johnson, Ronnie Meredith and Bill Tittle.
Walter E. "Buddy" Laurent
Mr. Walter E. "Buddy" Laurent, 76, of West Monroe, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe, with Rev. Bob Clanton officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun. Visitation was immediately before the service.
Survivors include his daughter, Stacey L. Rogers and husband, Alan; grandchildren, Jessica Smith and husband, Josh, and Kelli Johns and Jason; great-grandchildren, Riley, Adyson, Haven and Ethan; brother, William A. Laurent; sister, Virginia Woolsey; nieces and nephews, Katrina Jordan, Frank Woolsey and April Vivas; and numerous cousins and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Frank Woolsey, Bob Jordan, Alan Michael McVay, Barry Bell, Brandon Bell and Richard Johns.

Duline Jones Hargus Mizell
Duline Jones Hargus Mizell, 86, went home with her lord and savior on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Parkview Baptist Church with Dr. Lee McGlone and Dr. Whit Holmes officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, George W. Hargus Sr. and Winton R. Mizell; her parents, Thomas Jefferson Jones and Carrie Risner Jones; and siblings, Ruby Evans, Inez Atkinson, Mabel Epperson, Doyle Jones and Carlos Jones.
Survivors include her children and stepchildren, George W. Hargus Jr. and wife, Kathy, Carol H. Palowsky and husband, Stanley, Stanley M. Hargus and wife, Lynn, Walter Mizell and wife, Ferne, Rod Mizell and wife, Kay, and Don Mizell and wife, Kathy; sisters, Estel Bethard and Billie Jones; brother, Thomas Jones and wife, Lois; grandchildren, Stanley Palowsky III and wife, Michele, Stacy Palowsky, Steven Palowsky, Nicky Hargus, Arrah Hargus, John Mizell and wife, Kristen, Mike Mizell and wife, Dawn, Greg Mizell and wife, Elissa, Stephanie Mizell Henderson and husband, Jonathan, Brian Mizell and wife, Jamie, Lauren Mizell Cochran and husband, Dean, Aland Mizell, Mindy Mizell Galey and husband, Travis, and Megan Mizell Wallace and husband, Matt and Matt Mizell; and great-grandchildren, Zach and Lauren Palowsky, Tyler Brown, Sophia and Mattielyn Webb, Anna Grace and Drew Mizell, Luke Mizell, Jordan, Meryl and Micah Mizell, Ethan and Dunloe Henderson and Kate Wallace.

Milton O. Peacock
Dr. Milton O. Peacock, 91, entered into glory on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. Survivors include his wife, Norma Swazey Peacock; four children, Milton Dale Peacock (wife, Jackie), Tim Peacock (wife, Patti), Margaret Bourgeois (husband, Darrin) and Mary Guess (husband, Jonathan); 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, M. L. Peacock Jr.; three sisters, Juanita Rutledge, Norma Adams and Evelyn Futch; and many nephews and nieces. Dr. Peacock was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Luther and Mary Varner Peacock, and four siblings, Aaron Peacock, Grant Peacock, Frank Peacock and Ruth Wilson.
Dr. Peacock was born on Aug. 31, 1916, in southwest Ouachita Parish at his beloved homeplace, which he named Mandalay. He entered into glory from his home.
Crippled at an early age by rheumatoid arthritis, Dr. Peacock dedicated his life to acquiring and imparting knowledge. He obtained earned doctorates in biochemistry, pharmacology and naturopathic healing. Dr. Peacock was a scientist, an educator and a naturopathic counselor. He did research work on the first atomic bomb, and he was instrumental in starting the School of Pharmacy at ULM. He taught at several colleges and universities in the South and in Indiana. Dr. Peacock's passions were serving his Lord and educating and helping people. He was never too busy to give help. In his latter years, he counseled many folk as to their health ailments, giving invaluable advice and counsel.
Dr. Peacock was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Watson Church. He was a patriot, and he was a defender of truth and righteousness.
Interment occurred in a private gravesite ceremony at the Peacock family cemetery. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Dr. Peacock was held at Watson Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, with Pastor Bob Holloway officiating. Memorials may be made to Watson Church, 483 Red Cut Loop Road, West Monroe, LA 71292.

Julia Ellen Cash Smith
Mrs. Julia Ellen Cash Smith, 78, of Whitestown, Ind., and formerly of West Monroe, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Her funeral was Saturday, Jan. 5, in Lebanon, Ind.
Survivors include her husband, Richard, of Whitestown; daughters, Sovilla Mennen and husband, Jerry, of Kirklin, Ind., Nancy Kincaid of Martinsville, Ind., Julia Smith of Wheeling, W.V., and Martha Laka and husband, Andrew, of Wauconda, Ill.; sons, Richard Smith and wife, Jennifer, and Robert Smith and wife, Kimberly, all of Lebanon; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Janet Russell and husband, Robert, of West Monroe, and Nancy Thomason and husband, Paul, of Minden.

Martha Felts Stewart
Martha Felts Stewart, 98, of Monroe, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, following a brief illness.
Her funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Interment was at the Garden of Memories in Minden. The family received visitors prior to the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Stewart; parents, Stella and J. W. Felts of Heflin; brother, Mason Felts; and sisters, Tressie Thomas, Trebie Felts, Faye Walker and Josephine Hamm; and her beloved son-in-law, Marvin B. Nolen III.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Ann and Ralph McMickle of Monroe, and Candy and Al Edmonds of Sicily Island; grandchildren, Lindy and Doug Peterson of Austin, Texas, Stewart and Laura McMickle of The Woodlands, Texas, Heather and Mark Clark of Kennesaw, Ga., Scott and Lara McMickle of Woodstock, Ga., Missy and Barry Jones of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jessica and Casey Weeks of Madison, Miss; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chuck McCullen, Don Beach, Richard Paulus, Glen Cockrell, Bob Colvin and Fred Cheeks. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Harvel McAdams Sunday School Department at North Monroe Baptist Church.

Rebecca Junia "June" Mensch Strausser
Rebecca Junia ("June") Mensch Strausser, 94, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted, as well as her parents, Charles Mensch and Mary Kleim Mensch, and two sisters, Arlene Frances Mensch Bastian and Sarah Mathilda Mensch Waples.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jo Strausser Brown; son, Michael Charles Strausser; son-in-law James Barrow Brown; daughter-in-law Alice Barrilleaux Strausser; four grandchildren, Clare Elisabeth Brown Thomas, Mary Laura Brown, John Michael Strausser and Paul Charles Strausser; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
A requiem mass was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, with a reception at the church following the service.

J.C. Tolbird
Funeral services for Mr. J. C. Tolbird, 86, of West Monroe, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Rev. David Womack officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday evening.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alda and Calvin Tolbird; and brothers, Donald and Hilton Tolbird.
Survivors include, his wife, Marie Frost Tolbird; brother, Travis Tolbird and his wife Sue; daughter, Pat Harris and her husband, Danny; sons, Doyle Tolbird and wife, Sue, and Larry Tolbird and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Jamie Tolbird, Amy Tolbird, Rhonda Luther, Teresa Koch, Todd Tolbird and Blake Tolbird; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dennis Sims, Jermey Sims, Jamie Tolbird, Gage Kolb, Todd Tolbird and Blake Tolbird.

James Roy Walters Jr.
Mr. James Roy Walters, Jr., 77, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his residence.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at College Place Baptist Church in Monroe with Rev. Charles Headrick officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation was Wednesday evening.
He was in preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Roy Walters Sr.; and his daughter, Teresa Walters Gentry.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lynn Wilson Walters; daughter, Kathy Weiermiller and husband, Mike; son, James Roy Walters III and wife, Jenny; son-in-law, Wayne Gentry; grandchildren, James Roy Walters IV and wife, Sara, Jeffery Garrett Walters and fiancé, Melissa Coates, Kristal Gentry Anzalone and husband, Brad, Richard Wayne Gentry III, Jack Walters and Gray Walters; great-grandchildren, Emma Cardinale and Audrey Walters; brother, Rev. Charles Milford Walters and wife, Carol; sister, Melba Bilbo and husband Rupert; numerous nieces and nephews; and special sister-in-law, Evelyn Ferguson.
Pallbearers were Chalmes Williams, Charlie Thompson, Carl Fatheree, Gerald Weise, Eugene Ashley, Arthur Finley, Skip Caissie and Thomas Mack Boyd. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Collage Place Baptist Church and his Masonic Brothers.

Rev. Mr. Clarence Wisdom
Rev. Mr. Clarence Wisdom, 80, of West Monroe, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
His funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. Paschal Catholic Church in West Monroe with Fr. Frank Coens and Msgr. Edmund Moore officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation was Friday evening with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Wisdom; and by his brothers and sisters, Willie B. Wisdom, John D. Wisdom and Shirley Ann Wisdom.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dolores "Dee" Wisdom; daughter, Deborah Wisdom McCulloch; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Irene Ponthier and Wilma Jean Petrie; brothers, James B. Wisdom, Walter B. Wisdom and Jessie Ray Wisdom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Frank Freeman, Dorsey Byers, Al LeBrun, Robert Chatelain, Sam David and Kevin Roussel.
