Early voting begins Saturday

Ouachita Parish Registrar of Voters Christa Medaries has been busy preparing for early voters ahead of the Feb. 9 statewide presidential primary.

Also on the ballot Feb. 9 are citywide elections in Monroe and Richwood.

Medaries said her office has not received an abnormal number of absentee ballot requests so far.

"The last presidential primary, we only had a little over 600 voters," Medaries said. "I usually judge it by phone calls, but we haven't really had a lot of phone calls asking about it."

Early voting will begin Sat., Jan. 26. Early voting will remain open until the following Saturday, Feb. 2. Early voting is held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on those days, except for Sunday.

To cast an early ballot, Medaries said voters need only come to the office of the Registrar of Voters at 122 St. John Street, Room 114 in Monroe.

She pointed out early voters who may need assistance with the electronic voting machines will need to bring a letter from their physician stating that need.
