Baseball pros to raise money for Sterlington Saturday night, the Sterlington Auxiliary gym will be turned into a virtual who's who of the Major League Baseball world as seven major league baseball players will help the Sterlington baseball program kick off the 2008 season with their first fundraiser.
The event is set for Saturday at the Sterlington High School Auxiliary gym and tickets can be purchased as the SHS Student Services office ($25/adults and $10 for children 12 and under).
"This is our first-ever time trying to do this and we are hoping to have a successful inaugural event," Sterlington Head Coach Todd Moore said. "I know that it is coming at a time with a lot of other events going on with Mardi Gras and other things being so close to this date, but we hope to have a successful event.
"What there is going to be on Saturday night is a great collection of baseball talent from the collegiate and professional baseball level."
Emceed by Moon Griffon, Louisiana-Monroe Head Coach Jeff Schexnaider will be the guest speaker. Other special guests include Olympic Gold Medalist and All-Star pitcher from the Milwaukee Brewers, Ben Sheets; former West Monroe standout and Chicago White Sox player Brian West; Ben Jones of the New York Yankees; Terry Matthews of the Florida Marlins; Daniel Freeman of the Houston Astros; and Wade Robinson and Rusty Rugg of the Milwaukee Brewers.
"The other big thing that I want to make people aware of is that a portion of our ticket proceeds will also go to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital," Moore said. "We are also going to auction off of a couple of Mariucci bats that Brian West got for us. (LSU trainer) Jack Mariucci makes bats for several big league stars and was nice enough to donate some bats to our cause that we are going to auction off on Saturday night.
"Our special guests are going to autograph the bats so hopefully we can get some nice bids for a very special cause."
The entire event will also be catered by Danís Barbeque. For more information please call 318-665-2725 |
