'Young Heroes' nominees sought

There's still time to nominate an outstanding Louisiana student in grades 4-12 for Louisiana Public Broadcasting's 2008 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards.

Now in its 13th year, the Louisiana Young Heroes program honors students who have excelled in the classroom, served their community, overcome adversity or inspired others through their deeds and actions.

Any Louisiana student in grades 4-12 who has not previously won the award is eligible for nomination. As many as eight winners will be selected.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 4, and the winners will be announced on LPB on Feb. 27. The winners and their families will be honored on April 16 with a luncheon at the Governor's Mansion and an awards ceremony that night in Baton Rouge.

Nomination forms can be obtained from any Louisiana public or private school, public libraries, Books-A-Million locations or by calling LPB at 1-800-272-8161, ext. 4211. The nomination form can also be downloaded from www.lpb.org.
