MCSB recognizes students, approves London trip

A team of Carroll High School students received a standing ovation at the Monroe City School Board meeting Tuesday night for winning a regional robotics competition held recently at Louisiana Tech University.

The team, named Team Robo Pound, will travel to Anaheim, Calif. in April to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship. Wossman High School also participated in the regional competition.

Funds for the program were received through a state grant awarded by NASA. The $1,200 grants received by Carroll and Wossman provided the robot kits, software and training.

Eleven teams from north and south Louisiana and the Dallas area participated in the program sponsored in part by Red Stick Robotics. On two Saturdays, the teams received extensive training at Louisiana Tech in robotics, engineering and programming.
