The Ouachita Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness announced Monday that the parish had successfully implemented Alert FM as part of its parish-wide notification capabilities.

Alert FM will allow the parish's Homeland Security agency to notify residents of emergency information via Alert FM receivers that receive messages using the data subcarrier of local FM radio stations.

The new alert system was fully funded by an Environmental Planning and Historic Preservation grant from the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness as part of a ten-year contract.

"We are very excited to have this new technology available to our parish," said Tracy Hilburn, Ouachita Parish's director of Homeland Security. "It will allow us to send public messages to our residents as well as targeted messages to specific buildings, groups or areas."
