Monroe arena proposal picks up support

A proposal to build a new, multi-use arena in Monroe is gaining steam following a meeting last week in which architects working on the project introduced team members to the community.

Jackson-based architecture firm of M3A is conducting a study to determine the feasibility of an arena project in Monroe. Among the information M3A gathered are lists potential sites for the arena, funding mechanisms and a market survey to determine the usefulness of a facility.

It is all being done in an effort to shape what Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo calls "the next signature project" for the city.

"Rarely does one facility have the power and ability to change the image of an entire city," said M3A president William McElroy.
