Ohio upsets ULM in 2012 Independence Bowl The Ohio University Bobcats defeated the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks in a record-setting 45-14 performance in the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl at Independence Stadium in front of 41,853 fans.
The 31-point margin of victory set an Independence Bowl record, topping the previous high of 25 set by Virginia Tech against Indiana in 1993. The 45 points scored also tied an Independence Bowl record.
Ohio junior running back Beau Blankenship rushed for 105 yards on 19 carries and an Independence Bowl-record four rushing touchdowns.
Ohio junior quarterback Tyler Tettleton completed 14 of 22 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns. Chase Cochran finished with 162 yards receiving on three catches, including a touchdown, while Tyler Futtrell had five catches for 133 yards.
The Ohio defense forced three interceptions of ULM junior quarterback Kolton Browning. The Bobcats held the Warhawk offense to just 314 total yards.
Blankenship and Tettleton were named Co-Offensive Players of the Game, while junior linebacker Keith Moore was named Defensive Player of the Game. Moore finished the game with nine total tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
It was the first Independence Bowl appearance for both teams, and it was the first bowl appearance for ULM since it joined the FBS in 1994. |
