What an exciting time of year! Christmas is just days away and it's looking likely that we will have the makings of a "Louisiana snowman" this year, with the strong possibility of rain beginning on Christmas Eve!

And yet, the true joy of Christmas doesn't depend on the weather; it isn't predicated by what is or is not under the tree on Christmas morning. True Christmas joy comes through knowing the Christ of Christmas and by a renewed awareness of all that His coming to earth as a baby really means.

It's so easy to get carried away with the sights and sounds of the holidays — all the lights, music, decorations and gatherings quickly delude us. I must admit, I can hardly get enough of it, but all those externals are fairly insignificant when compared against God's plan for the ages.
