Marx bids council farewell after two terms

Monroe City Councilman Jay Marx called the years he has spent on the City Council "some of the best" of his life.

Marx delivered his remarks at the close of a regular meeting of the City Council Tuesday night. The meeting marked his last one at the helm of the City Council and brought to a close more than eight years of public service.

Marx's final meeting was not without fireworks, though, as the City Council was asked to consider renewing the liquor license of a bar located in one of Monroe's busiest residential neighborhoods.

Scruffs is a bar that operates in the Garden District in Monroe. Scruffs and its neighbor, Sixth Street Bar and Grill, have been at the heart of several resident complaints about traffic and litter in recent years.
