Barbe upsets Rebels in dramatic fashion The Barbe Buccaneers put up a 49-48 score against No. 3 West Monroe Rebels in semifinals action at Lake Charles last week to let the Rebels know a Class 5A Superdome trip wasn't meant to be.
No. 2 Barbe (14-1) made a surprise comeback in the last three minutes of the game, recovering two onside kicks and scoring three touchdowns. West Monroe's missed fourth quarter extra point kick gave Barbe room to snatch the lead and punch their ticket for a faceoff against No.1 Archbishop Rummel Raiders (14-0) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on Saturday.
"I was real proud of our guys. They exerted themselves to the fullest and it showed," said West Monroe Rebels head coach Don Shows. "It was unbelievable that we lost the ball game but we stayed in it until the very end and I'm proud of that."
