Late Sunday evening, ULM learned that it will face Ohio in the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl in Shreveport on Dec. 28. The contest between the Warhawks and the Bobcats will air nationally on ESPN with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. (CT).

The Friday matinee between ULM and Ohio will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. All-time, the Warhawks own a 3-5-1 record against current members of the Mid-American Conference (Eastern Michigan, 2-2-1; Kent State, 0-1; Northern Illinois, 1-0; Western Michigan, 0-2). ULM is 0-2 against teams from the MAC since joining the FBS ranks in 1994 (Western Michigan, 0-2).

The two squads have a common team award this season as Ohio and ULM claimed Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week honors on back-to-back weeks. The Bobcats earned the honor with a 24-14 win at Penn State during the opening weekend of the college football season, while ULM earned the honor a week later with a come-from-behind win over then-No. 8 Arkansas in Little Rock (W, 34-31, OT).

Ohio started the 2012 season 7-0 and climbed to as high as number 23 in the polls before dropping four of their final five games of the season to finish 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the MAC.

ULM, like Ohio, owns an 8-4 record overall with the Warhawks longest skid this season reaching just two games. The Warhawks finished 6-2 overall in the Sun Belt Conference and finished in a three-way tie for second place in the league (Middle Tennessee; UL-Lafayette).

Three other Sun Belt teams earned bowl berths and they are as follows:
UL-Lafayette (8-4, 6-2 SBC) vs. East Carolina (8-4, 7-1 C-USA)
R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, December 22

Western Kentucky (7-5, 4-4 SBC) vs. Central Michigan (6-6, 4-4 MAC)
Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl (Detroit), December 26

Arkansas State (9-3, 7-1 SBC) vs. No. 25 Kent State (11-2, 8-0 MAC)
GoDaddy.com Bowl (Mobile, Ala.), January 6
