Museum nixes plane rides
Early November will kick off a busy season for the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum, but festivities will lack one big event.
While the museum will host parades, banquets and the return of the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a planned auction of joyrides in a vintage World War II plane won't be on the agenda.
The museum originally planned to auction four 25-minute rides in a North American T-6G Texan military aircraft. The winners were to be announced at the conclusion of the "A Night of Heroes Dinner" banquet Nov. 9. But plans changed when state officials objected.
"We had to cancel the rides," said museum director Nell Calloway. "The state believed the rides might turn out to be too much of a safety risk and a possible liability. But we will still hold the banquet."
