Julia Harris was working at a school in Virginia when terrorists attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.

Harris recounted her experience Tuesday for a crowd of firemen, police officers and emergency medical technicians at a luncheon held in their honor at the West Monroe Community Center. Tuesday's get-together in West Monroe was held on the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Two teachers at Harris's Virginia school had family members directly in the path of the planes that tore through the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

"We, in a very personal way, felt the impacts of that day," said Harris, who now serves as executive director of the West Monroe Community Center.
