Lliving Well book release planned for Tuesday EDITOR'S NOTE: An article in last week's edition, listed this event on the wrong day. The corrected date is below.
The Living Well Foundation is proud to present its first literary project, "Frannie Sissnit Gets Her School Fit," written by local author Cindy Foust.
A special event will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Kiroli Park bandstand.
The book has been endorsed by Dr. Terry King, pediatric cardiologist, and Dr. Wilson Campbell, former professor in the Department of Kinesiology at ULM. This project is an expression of the foundation's desire to educate and encourage young readers to make positive choices relating to diet, fitness and exercise.
A hardback copy of the book will be given to every 3rd- and 4th-grade student within Ouachita Parish during the fall of 2012. Several classes from the Monroe/West Monroe area will be invited to attend. Selected students will lead the event by opening in prayer, leading in the Pledge of Allegiance, and singing the National Anthem. Cindy Foust will read the book to the group as well as introduce the main character, "Frannie."
A former fitness instructor will lead the children in several fun exercises. Subway sandwiches and apple slices will be served for lunch while a nutritionist will discuss the importance of healthy food choices.
The foundation's goal is to have the book distributed to all 3rd- and 4th-grade classes within the eight-parish service area by the end of the school year. These parishes include Caldwell, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland and Union. |
