La Tech ties Troy 0-0 in Women's Soccer

Louisiana Tech took four times as many shots as the Troy Trojans, but were unable to convert any of them into goals as their first match of the Trojan Classic ended in a 0-0 draw.

This was the first overtime game of the year for the Lady Techsters. The tie pushes their record to 4-0-1 and brings Troy's overall record to 3-2-1.

Tech's offense attacked the Trojans early and often, taking four corner kicks in the first nine minutes of action. By the end of the first period the Techsters had several scoring opportunities holding a 10-3 shot advantage, four of those on goal, but none were able to find the back of the net.

"We dominated possession and played almost the entire game in their half," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "Sadly last season's problem arose of not having anyone able to open up a compact defense and finish any chance we create."

Heather Fitzgerald had two shots at an open net but was unable to get a good foot on either ball. Freshman midfielder Brittany Beddow led the team with six shots, three of them on goal.

The defense of Mo Rockwell, Mette Rudolfsen, Lindsay Brough and goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke played the entire game never allowing Troy to get deep into their box for a close strike. This tremendous effort gave the offensive line even more chances on some late strikes in the first and second overtime to try to take the victory.

"Defense played well covering Troy's counter attacks, but the offensive side of the team could not match their level," said Sherry.

Troy only took five shots the whole game, with only one of those coming on goal by Samantha Morgan.

The Lady Techsters will recharge and face Jacksonville State on Sunday at 3 p.m. The gamecocks beat Stetson in the first match of the day in the Trojan Classic by a score of 2-0.
