Tulane will open 2012 season on Saturday against Rutgers in the Superdome
Tulane University Director of Athletics Rick Dickson has reconfirmed the Green Wave football team will open the season this Saturday, Sept. 1 against Rutgers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The game will kick-off at 7:03 p.m. and will be nationally-broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.
Dickson and members of the Tulane administration worked with officials from the City of New Orleans, Entergy, Conference USA, Rutgers University and the CBS Sports Network and all entities have agreed to go forward with the game despite damage inflicted to the city by Hurricane Isaac, which made landfall on Tuesday evening south of New Orleans.
According to SMG officials, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome "sustained no major interior or exterior damage from Hurricane Isaac and is expected to be ready for Tulane's season opening game Saturday."
"After continuous dialogue with officials from our university, our city, SMG, C-USA , the CBS Sports Network and Rutgers, we have concluded it is not only appropriate to move ahead with this event but essential to show the nation the resolve and resiliency of our community when faced with enormous adversity," Dickson said. "I hope all New Orleanians will join CJ and this team in demonstrating this spirit!"
