Chiefs travel to face Pineville
by Jimmy Touchet - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Pineville Rebels opened the 2011 campaign red hot — winning four of their first five games — but then the road block that is District 2-5A crashed the Rebels playoff hopes as they finished the season 4-6.

Coach Robbie Martin and his offensive coordinator David "Shaggy" Moreau played under Hall of Fame Coach Don Shows when Shows was at Pineville in the early 1980's. Both Martin and Moreau are looking to returning starting quarterback Ty Huffman (5'9", 187 lbs.) to lead the Pineville spread offense attack.

Huffman has his favorite targets returning from 2011 in wide receivers Christian Sampson (6'2", 170 lbs.), Michael Crowder (6'1", 180 lbs.) and tight end Jacob Pickett (6'1", 185 lbs.). In 2011, Sampson had over 300 yards receiving with two touchdowns while Crowder added over 200 yards in receiving with two touchdowns.

The Chiefs' defense will have to contain Rebel running backs Dontavius Byrd (5'9", 175 lbs.) and Ronnie Campbell (5'7", 165 lbs.) who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

The Pineville Rebels offensive line consists of Taylor Coutee (5'11", 205), Ryan Laborde (5'10", 190 lbs.), Paxton Liotta (5'11", 190 lbs.), Darien Batiste (6'0", 275 lbs.) and Jason Pharis (6'3", 215 lbs.).

On defense, the Rebels will run a 3-4 with returning starters in linebacker Jameson Brown (5'8", 195 lbs.), cornerback DeEldrick Taylor (5'9", 185 lbs.), defensive line Caleb Malone (5'10", 255 lbs.), safety Christian Aldecoa (5'10", 185 lbs.), and outside linebackers in Toby Briggs (6'2", 230 lbs.) and Christian VanBuren (6'0", 190 lbs.).

Working with the Pineville linebackers this season is former Alexandria Senior High Defensive Coordinator Eric Cook, who moved to Pineville when former ASH head coach Chris Gatlin took the offensive coordinator position at Ruston.

Handling the kicking duties for Pineville is Landon Weeks while Crowder is expected to start as the punter.
