Isaac arrived on the shores of Louisiana Tuesday, bringing with it torrential rains and winds in excess of 80 miles per hour.

The ninth named storm of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season made landfall as a strong Category 1 storm. It came ashore in Plaquemines Parish, 90 miles south of New Orleans.

The storm carried with it a tidal surge that topped 12-foot levees in Plaquemines Parish, flooding homes and sending residents scampering for high ground.

Media reports Wednesday indicated numerous emergency calls from residents trapped in attics or on roofs, recalling images of Hurricane Katrina, which struck the New Orleans area seven years ago this week.
