Sterlington stays ahead, prepares early for Isaac Sterlington Mayor Vern Breland arrived late to Tuesday's Board of Aldermen meeting, but in plenty of time to brief the board on preparations for Hurricane Isaac.
Before Breland's arrival, Mayor Pro Tem Caesar Velasquez led aldermen through some routine town business.
Breland was tardy because he attended a meeting of emergency preparedness officials in advance of Isaac's landfall along the Louisiana coast. Breland said Sterlington was as ready as possible to deal with any problems.
"Gustav caught us totally off guard," Breland said. "Since that point in time we've spent over $300,000 redoing the drainage inside the village. We've mowed everything, we've cleaned out what we can clean out." .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
