Panthers defeat Chiefs 20-7 in Bayou Jamb After battling to a scoreless tie in the first half, the new triple option offense for the Sterlington Panthers got on track in route to a 20-7 Bayou Jamb victory over the West Ouachita Chiefs.
It only took the Panthers 33 seconds to strike in the second half when quarterback Taylor Lockwood executed a perfect quarterback draw for a 42-yard touchdown to put the Panthers on the board first. The extra point was no good as Sterlington took a 6-0 lead.
Lockwood struck again on an 18-yard option play around the left side. Freshman receiver Devon Murphy converted the two point conversion on an end around on the right side to make the score 14-0 with 11:08 left in the game.
West Ouachita got on the board with a 1-yard touchdown quarterback sneak by Clay LaBeff. Spencer Perkins converted the point after to make the score 14-7. West Ouachita score was set up by a bruising 31-yard run by senior Hunter Deville.
After Perkins booted the kickoff into the end zone on the ensuing kickoff, Sterlington took possession on its 20-yard. QuenTerrius Gray broke loose on a 42-yard run after Perkins. Lockwood hooked up with receiver Casey Sutton for a 9-yard touchdown pass to put the Panthers up 20-6.
Lockwood was named Most Valuable Player of the Game for Sterlington while West Ouachita's Deville picked up MVP honors for the Chiefs. |
