Community center to host troops The West Monroe Community Center has invited boys, girls, and their parents for a Scout Recruitment Night on Aug. 30.
The center has sponsored Cub Scouts before, but this year they're expanding to Girl Scout troops as well.
Meghan Olinger, the center's volunteer coordinator, and Shelby Wilson, project coordinator, teamed up to get the new troops in operation. Wilson said they've got high hopes for great participation.
"We'd had a Cub Scout troop, but only a few boys came," Wilson said. "When the Boy Scouts came to discuss re-chartering, we decided we wanted to because it's a good opportunity to give the children of the community an outlet so they're not just hanging out, they have something to do. And if we're doing it for the boys, we could do that for the girls, give them an opportunity to grow and learn about themselves." .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
