Kirby Theriot, a 7th-grader at West Ridge Middle School in West Monroe, recently attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
The theme of this year's event was "Voices of Leadership: Reflecting on the Past to Create the Future."

The JrNYLC introduces young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American history, while helping them to develop their own leadership skills.

During the six-day program, students took part in educational activities and presentations. They explored relevant sites, such as Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, West Virginia, and Washington D.C.'s museums and memorials.

Theriot is the son of Andy and Tracye Theriot of West Monroe.
