Parish teachers prep for 'Core,' evaluation

Teachers employed by Ouachita Parish Schools have gone back to class.
They're learning rather than teaching.

When setting the calendar for the 2012-2013 year, the Ouachita Parish School Board added more days for teacher in-service training to prepare for the COMPASS teacher evaluation system and the implementation of the Common Core curriculum.

Superintendent Bob Webber said the School Board wanted to ensure that principals and teachers were well prepared for the changes.

"It's a fairly complicated process that will take a little time," said Webber. "We want to let the teachers know what it's all about. There's a lot of unknowns, of uncertainties. But we'll be fine. It's something that's new, which is a little unsettling at first."
