Monroe City Council delays tank project

Leaky pipes and pitted steel mean contractors working to rehabilitate the Powell Street water storage tank must wait two weeks before continuing work.

That's the word from the Monroe City Council, which voted unanimously to pass over consideration of an almost $67,000 change order submitted by Structural Protection Systems. The contractor was hired to refurbish the Powell Street tank.

Councilman Eddie Clark asked to delay consideration of the change order to give the City Council some time to look at alternatives.

"To vote on a change order of sixty-six grand without any information is kind of hard to do," Clark said.
