Sterlington earns honor at LMA event

The Town of Sterlington has won its fourth economic development award from the Louisiana Municipal Association. The LMA honored 12 communities of various sizes with its prestigious Community Achievement Awards at its annual meeting in Lake Charles on Aug. 4.

Mayor Vern Breland also was named the LMA's first vice president at the meeting. He will become president next year when the organization holds its meeting in Monroe.

Breland said Sterlington won the top award for municipalities of its size in 2006, 2007 and 2008. For 2009 and 2010, he said, the town won honorable mention.
