House Speaker Chuck Kleckley believes higher education has fallen under the budget axe enough.

Speaking to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, Kleckley said colleges and universities cannot afford any more cuts in state funding.

"Higher education cannot suffer any more cuts," said Kleckley, R-Lake Charles. "We have done things over the last few years that have helped, but it's to the point now that there's no more room for cuts."

According to Kleckley, the future of Louisiana's economy is largely dependent on the future of the state's children.
