NELA YMCA Gra-Y football league accepting registration until August 28 The Northeast Louisiana (NELA) YMCA is currently holding registration for youth ages 4 to 12-years old for its annual Gra-Y football season. Parents can register their child at the YMCA office at 1505 Stubbs Ave. in Monroe.
Parents can register their child online beginning on August 1 at http://www.ynela.org.
"After a great 2011 season, we are extremely excited to kick-off the 2012 season," said YMCA NELA Sports Director Chad Canal. "This year, we are adding two new divisions. Those divisions are Junior Tackle (8-year (old) and Little Tykes Flag (4-year old)."
The deadline for registration is August 28, 2012. Each league is divided based on each child's age as of August 1, 2012.
The NELA-YMCA Youth Football League are divided into the following leagues: Little Tykes Flag (4-year old), Flag I (5-year old), Flag I (6 year old), Flag II (7 year old), Junior Tackle (8 year old league / weight limit 155lbs.), Tackle I (9 year old league / weight limit 175lbs), Tackle I (10 year old league / weight limit 175 lbs.) and Tackle II (11 and 12 year old league / weight limit 185 lbs.).
The NELA- YMCA youth football program fees are vary according to the leagues. The fees are as followed Little Tykes- $55.00, Flag $65.00 and Tackle $75.00. The fee includes a jersey. Tackle equipment not included.
There are no refunds after Sept. 20 and there is a $10.00 service charge on any refund. The 2012 NELA YMCA season kicks off September 15 with the Jamboree games.
The official start of the regular season begins on September 22. The regular season concludes on October 27 with the Super Bowl games being played on November 10. The conclusion of the regular season and the date of the Super Bowl are subject to change if the weather requires rescheduling of games.
All kids that register for Gra-Y Football are automatically enrolled in ULM's Junior Warhawk Club.
One of the biggest needs for any youth league is quality volunteer coaches. Anyone interested in coaching this season for NELA Gra-Y Football League, can contact the NELA YMCA.
Canal hopes that the league will to continue to grow.
"We just want to encourage anyone with a child age 4-12 to come on out and sign up for YMCA Gra-Y Football and help us continue to build on great and long running program," said Canal.
