Mehendale, ULM reach settlement
Dr. Harihara Mehendale will retain his position as the Kitty DeGree Endowed Chair in Toxicology, under terms of a settlement reached with the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
Mehendale was partially paralyzed by a stroke in 2007. He returned to work at ULM in 2008, but filed a lawsuit in 2009 alleging that ULM was engaging in discriminatory behavior because of the effects of his stroke.
He spent almost a year on extended medical leave and returned to work in 2008. That's when, Mehendale's suit claimed, university officials denied him access to valuable laboratory equipment, research assistants and, eventually, faculty colleagues.
