City quashes train horns Work is moving ahead to quell the blast of train horns as they pass through a crowded residential area.
West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris said final preparations will begin next week to establish a "quiet zone" along the Kansas City Southern line from the Ouachita River heading west.
"Quieting the horns has been an on-going project," Norris said. "It improves the quality of life for our residents living in that area, and the downtown businesses and their patrons will enjoy the quieter days."
Currently, any train passing through downtown West Monroe must issue warning blasts to alert vehicles and pedestrians of its approach.
