Vantage restores luster to downtown jewel

A landmark building in downtown Monroe will show off its $1.1 million renovation with a ribbon-cutting and a dedication of a new park on Friday morning.

Vantage Health Plan, Inc. invites people to tour the former Central Bank building at the corner of Desiard and Jackson streets starting at 10 a.m.

Vantage purchased the building in August 2010. It was constructed as Central's headquarters beginning in 1923. In 1926, the bank's board authorized the purchase of the large outside chime clock that became its instantly-recognized architectural feature.
