Board hires consultant to review charters

Three groups hoping to begin charter school operations in Monroe could know more about their fates in the immediate future.

At a recent meeting of the Monroe City School Board, board attorney Doug Lawrence asked board members to allow him to begin talking with U.S. District Judge Robbie James about the charter schools.

Meanwhile, the School Board agreed to hire a firm to review all charter school applicants.

School Board members unanimously approved hiring New Millennium Education, a firm specializing in charter school application review.
