Monroe police investigate homicides

A series of shootings over the weekend left two men dead in Monroe.

"There's very little we could have done to prevent these particular homicides," said Monroe Police Maj. James Fried. "However, whenever there are areas experiencing violence and gang activity, we do try to address those areas with more patrol."

Fried delivered that assessment at a news conference held Monday at the city of Monroe's public safety complex.

According to Fried, police are looking for a suspect in the death of Leon Holliday, who was discovered in an automobile Sunday night in the 200 block of South 21st Street.
