City water supply exceeds EPA standards

The City of West Monroe got a clean report on its public water supply for 2011.
City Environmental Quality Manager Terry Emory said no violations of EPA standards occurred during that calendar year.

The city sends at least 15 monthly samples from its water system to a certified lab at the state Department of Health and Hospitals. The samples are tested for microbiological contaminants. In addition, DHH takes samples of raw water straight from the city's six groundwater wells.

All of those samples, even untreated, presented no violations, according to Emory.
That's good news, according to Emory, especially since those wells tap into the depleting Sparta Aquifer.
