'Cleanest City' honor for Sterlington

For the second year in a row, the town of Sterlington won first place in its category of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation's annual Cleanest City Contest.

Contest chairman Jean Gilstrap presented a plaque to Mayor Vern Breland recognizing Sterlington's accomplishment at a recent Board of Aldermen meeting.

"It's always an honor to receive such an award," Breland said. "But keeping the town clean is part of our normal progress in keeping the town moving forward. It's always an honor, though, when people recognize the hard work you're putting in."
Sterlington competes in Category C, which is comprised of towns with populations between 1,000 and 1,499. Breland said the town would move up to Category D in next year's competition because of its growing population.
