SFMC school center receives dental grant The St. Francis School-Based Health Center, located at Carroll Junior High School, was recently awarded a grant from the National Assembly on School-Based Health Care (NASBHC) to increase the capacity of school-based health centers (SBHCs) to provide oral health services to students.
This includes conducting assessments for adolescents who may be at risk of dental diseases, providing anticipatory guidance on nutrition, applying fluoride varnish on patients' teeth to help prevent tooth decay, and referring students to local dental providers for diagnostic and treatment services as necessary.
The St. Francis SBHC was one of 20 centers around the country to receive the grant.
"During our visits with students, dental issues are periodically noted. This grant will afford us the opportunity to take a hands-on approach for oral health promotion and prevention," said Stalanda Butcher, MPH, St. Francis SBHC Program Manager. The center will be ready to provide oral health services to students when school begins in August. .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
