Counselor's Corner: Get your child involved with reading this summer In last week's column, I discussed ten benefits of reading to children. If you were fortunate enough to grow up in a household where books were important, your children are probably benefiting from exposure to books and reading.
If your family life did not include these things, it is hard to know where to start. Most children prefer TV, movies, video games, and media that are exciting and fast-moving.
And it is so easy to let them do just that! It is definitely more of a challenge today to get children interested and enthusiastic about reading, but the benefits are astounding! Here is some helpful information to enrich the reading lives of your own children.
In the beginning, choose shorter books, especially for young children. Children love eye-catching illustrations and believable characters.
