West Monroe weighs $18.1 million budget

Overall expenses for the city of West Monroe should remain flat in the fiscal year that begins July 1, if the Board of Aldermen approves a proposed $18.1-million general fund budget.

That budget, and a second budget governing the city's Utility Fund, will be entertained by aldermen at their regular meeting Tuesday night. The proposed budget for the Utility Fund is $4.2 million.

Mayor Dave Norris downplayed the proposed budgets.

"Sometimes we make a little too much out of new budgets, since the city's business is continuous and this is just our plan for the next 12 months of operation," said Norris.
