The West Nile virus marked its return to northeast Louisiana last week with the discovery of virus-infected mosquitoes collected in Monroe's Garden District neighborhood.

Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement director Shannon Rider said more tests were pending to determine if the potentially deadly virus was present in other areas of the parish.

"We won't know until Friday," Rider said. "That's when our results come back."
Traps stationed throughout Ouachita Parish collect mosquito specimens, which are sorted by species and sent to a lab in Baton Rouge for testing.
