City School Board approves charters

Plans for three charter schools in Monroe will move forward after the Monroe City School Board approved their applications Tuesday.

A community group backing the creation of Neville Charter School hopes to begin offering classes in August. Two other groups approached the School Board with plans to open new charter schools next year.

Board Member Vicky Krutzer said the success of the partnerships between the charter schools and the city school system would lie in the strength of the contract the groups negotiate with the School Board.

"I believe this is going to enhance our district," Krutzer said. "I don't want to lose any of these students from our district."
