A Ouachita Parish housing assistance program could be merged with the Monroe Housing Authority in an effort to avoid reducing services to needy households.

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury operates a Section 8 housing program, which provides income-based rental assistance to roughly 500 qualified households.
The program has come under fire over the past several years because of operating deficits, which have placed additional strains on the Police Jury's cash-strapped general fund, according to Police Juror Walt Caldwell.

Caldwell chairs the Police Jury's finance committee.
