Spring football question: Finding who can play

Several parish football squads wrapped up spring training this week with intersquad scrimmages.

At River Oaks, the Mustangs hosted the Riverfield Raiders on Saturday in their spring scrimmage.

"I saw a lot of areas where we need to improve on over the summer to get read for next fall," River Oaks Coach Robert Hannah said. "I thought we improved throughout the course of the scrimmage. We have some young guys that are going to have to grow up to fill some spots."

At St. Frederick last Friday, the mood was optomistic as the Warriors participated in the Blue / White game - an intra-squad scrimmage between offensive and defensive personnel.

"I thought there was bright spots on both sides of the ball," St. Frederick Coach Chad Swanberg said. "Everybody got to play, everybody had fun and we came out without injuries."

The Carroll Bulldogs are looking to rebound from last seasons disappointing 3-7 campaign and are focused on improving depth and discipline amongst their players.

"So far it has it has been a good spring, we have been focused on our offesnive line," Carroll Coach Jackie Hamilton. "Last year, that 3-7 season didn't sit well with us. We are looking for players that want to win, put in the work that it takes to win."
